The Signal is Locked

Pre-production on Echobound is officially complete. The game bible — a full design specification for every system, mechanic, region, and enemy in the game — is done. Development begins tomorrow.

Most of what’s in that document stays in the document for now. A few things are worth mentioning.

The bestiary draws its mythology from Finnish, African, Native American, Norse, and African diaspora traditions, guided by a single design philosophy: mythology as a door, not a destination. The goal is to spark curiosity — not reduce living cultural traditions to set dressing.

One of the game’s core resource systems was inspired by Christine Miserandino’s Spoon Theory — a framework she developed to explain what it’s like to live with chronic illness. If you haven’t read it, it’s worth your time. How it maps onto Echobound is something we’ll get into down the road.
